Understanding Employee Relations vs. Industrial Relations

Industrial relations aim at collective bargaining and disciplining through negotiations, with the union at the center of attention.

Industrial Relations: Those aspects of collective relations between management and workers' representatives which are normally covered by collective bargaining.

Employee Relations: “Employee Relations involves the body of work concerned with maintaining employer-employee relationships that contribute to satisfactory productivity, motivation, and morale. Essentially, Employee Relations is concerned with preventing and resolving problems involving individuals which arise out of or affect work situations.”
