It is not a matter of joking or making a fun, like you have done. In fact Madhukar needed some advice on the issue raised by him, not to be made fun of. If you are a real HR professional you should have guided him to take certain precautions in the future to develop his career.
Further, if you are the follower of what you say "IT GOES ON" and don't try to learn something from such an instance, your own slogan "An educated man of yesterday, who stops learning today becomes uneducated tomorrow" is likely to fit well some day on you also.

Discrimination is an inherent trait. Do not countries discriminate based on religion? I do not know where you hail from. Once, I encountered a Dutchman when working for a firm. I sincerely feel bad for you for the treatment meted out to you, if what you said is the truth.
I hope you have got another job,
Remember, never resign your current job for whatsoever reason (as much as possible) until you get a new job.
See, there are many angles to look at this situation.
1. You might have really performed well by all standards, but the company has neglected you to reward you suitably. This could be because the management is MEAN. Yes many of the smaller companies (or even some bigger as well) with mean bosses, wrong practices, favoritism etc, do not care for the performing employees. If this is the case, what ever decision you have taken is right one, provided you got another job and now have the right opportunity to perform in the new atmosphere and your new company and the management has right policies to reward your performance.
Sometimes, such mean management companies also know that this is a good performing employee, but purposely neglect him/her, believing that the employee would not leave (misunderstanding that - where the employee would go, we are the only company who can offer the job to him/her). And then, when the employee leaves, they realize the truth and are left with no option but to eat their own nails.
2. May be that you might have really performed well by all standards, but your good performance has not been heard by the decision maker in the management who is powered to reward the performers. This is a case where you are an unlucky person reporting to a devil boss/manager. In this case also, you have taken a right decision, provided you are lucky now to get a new job with a good boss.
3. May be that you might have really performed well by all standards, but the company has a slower response time to reward the performers. In this case, probably you have been too impatient.
But, I feel, in this case when you resigned from your earlier company, there should have been an effort from your boss or the management regarding why are you leaving, if anything can be done immediately or in short future to take care of your grievance. In this scenario, what has happened is a negligence from the company about the reasons for which good performer employee is leaving and they would suffer the loss.
4. May be that "you feel" you have performed well above average, but the management requirement in itself is the kind of performance you have given which is minimum. In such case you are over expecting.
Anything from above or even some more situations could be true.
But, I would advise you,
- Learn from the experience.
- Do not be impatient (you may realize that getting a suitable job is really very very hard or earlier job/management was better)
- Never quit a job unless you get a better job
Do not get disheartened, this is a "CRUEL & WILD" society, where rules are made for and ethics are followed by the WEAK and POOR (HAVE NOTs), but not followed by those who fall in the bracket of RULERS and (some) WEALTHY (HAVEs).
If you have to survive and grow, you have to swim against this tide - sometimes swaying along with the cruel tide to hold your breath, then put your power together and make a move to overcome and be victorious.

Yes MR. Innocent, you said it right, if one is closer with the mngt supervisors and managers promotions and increment are really quite high.

Brother, you think you have performed much better but behind you, your manager decides whether to reward you or not, whether you worked to hi satisfactory or not. BUT, there is one thing you should know Don't trust what you know but put your trust in GOD. For promotion comes from GOD. GOD uses man as a yardstick bless fellow men. So, please trust only GOD.
