There is a new method I came across regarding leaves. This is called a sandwich of leaves if the weekend falls during the leave period applied by a person. If I am entitled to take 9 leaves (earned leaves) and if applied on a Friday and resuming work on the following Tuesday, weekends come during the period. I wanted to know if the weekly off that I am entitled to is considered as a paid time off or do they remain as weekly off. This procedure will hamper the leave balance accumulated by me. Is this the right way as per the leave policy? As far as I understand, I am entitled to the weekly offs as well.
Kindly provide an insight on this scenario.

As far as my understanding goes, the weekly off’s are marked as "Leave Without Pay" if there is no leave balance accumulated.

Clarification on Earned Leave Calculation
Please note that Earned Leaves are calculated based on the working days. When an employee is on Earned Leave, the intervening weekends (off days) and holidays are not considered as part of the leave entitlement. Those days should be compensated as if the employee were working regularly.
Deducting salary for those days and treating them as part of the leave period goes against the rules outlined in the Factories Act and Shops and Establishments Act.
