I am a new user of this program. Can anyone tell or advise me on how and what I should do to stop workers from throwing cigarette butts in front of our guard house, which is outside the company compound? For your information, the company I work for deals with a lot of chemicals, which prohibits all workers from smoking within the company compound. Ninety percent of the workers are smokers. Additionally, we do not have enough space to build a smoking zone within the factory compound.

THANKS.

Three-Pronged Strategy for Workplace Safety

1. To Get Workers to Be More Disciplined:
- Place a few dustbins and large boards around the guard house for cigarette butts to be disposed of properly.
- Encourage leaders who smoke to set an example of discipline.

2. To Alert Them to the Dangers of Fire in the Workplace:
- Install hazard caution boards around the factory.
- Display boards outlining the steps for crisis control in case of a fire.

3. To Make Workers Aware of the Hazards of Smoking:
- Post write-ups and statistics about smoking-related problems on notice boards.
- Consider sharing a public service documentary on the dangers of smoking.
- Arrange a talk by a doctor on strategies to combat the urge to smoke.

Yes, Barnbarn has suggested some valuable points. You can implement them one by one. For an immediate remedy, you can place a dustbin with sand near the guard's gate, at least to keep that area clean. Lung cancer is the most alarming concern for smokers. Note that they not only spoil their health but also the health of bystanders. I hope you can get posters from the Government health department.
