Dear all, I am a fresher with a couple of months of experience in a reputed company, but the work environment here is based on a monopoly. The work culture is very poor, and all seniors constantly try to demotivate their subordinates and engage in boss management. I am very stressed about how to survive in this kind of culture and how to help reduce it. Please suggest something on what to do?

Thank you.

The moment you start shouting, you become dependent on others. Instead of criticizing, start appreciating your teammates, and you will soon notice differences that will really work in your favor.

Dear Komila,

In the present world, the boss culture has faded, and the manager culture has also disappeared. Currently, the leader concept is becoming outdated, and the mentor concept is gaining traction in all industries. However, in practice, these concepts are only implemented on paper.

There is a saying, "Survival of the Fittest." You must adapt yourself to the work culture and behavioral norms adopted in your company to survive.

If someone criticizes you, it means you are growing in that organization. Take the essence of the criticism and work on improving yourself.

First, learn the work and try to do it yourself. Only when you become a master in your work can you teach others, and your subordinates will also listen to you.

Every morning, practice some yoga to keep your mind calm throughout the day. If you face difficulty in understanding the nature of work, do not hesitate to inquire about it with your immediate boss. Asking a question may cause momentary shame, but not asking will lead to shame every time you are given instructions. The initial period can be tough in any company, and your colleagues may see you as a competitor.

Remember, except for you, no one can demotivate or hurt you. Never allow anyone to bring you down.

Wishing you all the success and the best, dear.

I feel you are undergoing a ragging phase, which is often faced by new employees. 

Effective Stress Management Tips

I would like to add the following few points for effective stress management:

1. Leave your stress at the office; do not carry it home.
2. Love your work; I mean, do your work as if you are doing it for yourself or your family.
3. Read jokes.
4. Share your problems with friends by speaking your heart out.
5. Practice yoga.
6. Never worry about others; worry about yourself.
7. Ensure you have sound sleep.

I hope these suggestions may help you.

Best regards,

You will face such difficulties in every organization. But don't worry about that; you will learn from this only. It's a positive sign of your growth. Just think, if you are motivated, no one can demotivate you.

Dear Komila,

First of all, I appreciate your willingness to stop feeling the way you feel right now because that shows you have the courage to take up the challenge. The sheer will to feel good will help you feel good!

I completely agree with Mr. S. Bhaskar when he says, "If someone is criticizing you, it means you are growing in that organization." This means you are important enough to get their attention.

I was in a similar situation when I joined, but as I stand today, after just four months, things have changed for the better. I will share with you certain points that have helped me as I walked my path:

1. Identify your purpose for being a part of this firm and ask yourself what you need to do every day to reach that as nicely as possible. Put it down on paper—this will give you clarity.
2. Following the first point will hardly leave you with time to think about what others think about you.
3. Remember, you are here to perform and grow, both as a professional and as a person. The more variety in experiences, the better your growth path will be.
4. Tell yourself that you are answerable to your boss, not to those annoying subordinates. If they don't like the way you work or keep bullying you, it becomes your problem only when you take it on your mind. Until then, it remains their problem, not yours.
5. I'll share with you what Sachin Tendulkar once said: "Some people who can't do certain things themselves, talk. So one should let them talk. I prefer to listen to those who matter to me."

You sincerely have no time to be wasted on such petty things. Live this life; not everyone gets one.

I suggest you keep doing your work sincerely. Ignore the others around you. Your hard work has to get its due recognition; it's only a matter of time. Take care of yourself. In short, "mind your own business!"

Take Pride in Your Work

Take pride in what you are doing. Respect your employer and company wholeheartedly. Do not ever think that you are in a bad company and the world outside is all lovely green. You may face similar or different problems in other places too. Only look at positive things and ignore negatives.

Instead of working on the job, work on yourself to tolerate and to overcome all these setbacks.
