Hi All, I would like to know the role progression in HR. For example, when you start off, it's HR, then Senior HR Executive... what's next? Is it HR-TL or HR Manager? How does it go on? Can someone throw light on this?

Role Progression in the HR Field

What I meant was, how does role progression happen in the HR field? How does the position start off initially? For example, is it Human Resource Executive, Senior Human Resource Executive, Human Resource Manager... is this right?

Hi Soumya,

Basically, it depends on the size and structure of the company/organization. Taking an instance of a Private Limited/Proprietorship where the employee strength is only 25, there should be an HR department in general consensus. However, upon observation, you'll find that there is only one person handling all the activities related to manpower.

I do hope that this information will help you. Please ask if you need any clarification.

Hi Bhagwan,

Yes, I got your point. I was a little confused because I'm a Senior HR Executive here and I'm in a dilemma as to what my next post would be next year. I have 5 years of experience in HR.

I assumed that after Senior HR, it's HR Manager, but my friends confused me by saying that it's HR TL.

Can you sort this out for me, please?

HR Hierarchy
Manager HR (more than 5 years)
Asst. Manager HR (3-5 years)
Sr. Executive HR (2-3.5 years)
Executive HR (0-2.5 years)
Management Trainee HR (0-1 year)

This is the hierarchy of the HR Department. It may help you, and it also depends on the company's structure and policy.

Hi Soumya,

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to you for giving me the opportunity to assist you in this matter.

Regarding your query about your next designation, if your organization is well-managed and structured, you will be promoted to the position of "Assistant Manager-HR" first. Subsequently, you will progress to the role of "Deputy Manager-HR," followed by "HR Manager," and so forth along the HR hierarchy.

I hope this clarifies the progression for you. Please feel free to ask if you need any further clarification.

Regards

Hi Soumya,

Yes, as the people above said, it depends on the size of the organization, the size of the workforce, and the organization's career policies. If it is a large firm, the career progression of an HR professional in the initial stages, once you come out from college, starts as follows:

Management Trainee - Jr. Executive - Sr. Executive - Officer - Sr. Officer - Assistant Manager - Deputy General Manager - Manager - Sr. Manager - Assistant General Manager - Deputy General Manager - General Manager - Vice President - Sr. Vice President - Director.

For every designation, the word "HR" will be added. For example, Raghavan Vyas, General Manager (HR) at XYZ Company.

Hope you got it, and for any further queries, you can email me at "raghubobbala@gmail.com."

If you need any more assistance, feel free to ask.
