As a retired academic without experience in HR, I do not think mere experience as a recruiter will be enough for an engineer (I am one too) to become an HR generalist. Usually, a distance MBA is not considered equivalent to a full-time MBA. I am sure some HR experts will provide you with better advice.

Have a nice day.

Hi,

Education is a medium, but not the only medium to learn and do things. My case was similar. I think if you are offered an opportunity in a generalist profile and want to learn and continue, then definitely take it. In parallel, you can pursue your MBA part-time or through distance learning, or prepare for a full-time MBA from a reputed institute.

I am also working as an IT recruiter. I have done my MBA (HR) with a background in BTech. My suggestion is to go for a regular MBA. If that is not possible, consider distance learning. The point here is not just how much you know, but also that certificates matter, though not as much as experience.

MBA is not important; however, it’s a question of supply and demand. If there are people who have MBA-HR applying for jobs then the companies are likely go for them.
