If one family member is sick for 10 days, which leave should he/she apply for? Casual leave cannot be applied because the time period is 10 days, and he/she only has 3 days of earned leave in the account. Your views and inputs are welcome.

Thanks, Saanika, for your valuable input. This is the only solution, or do you have any other solutions? It will impact the employee from both ends. Personally, he is a bit disturbed because his family member is unwell, and on the other hand, there will be a financial loss as well.

Dear Rajesh,
If he doesn't have enough leave in balance, he has to bear this loss of pay. The only way to overcome this problem is for him to speak to his reporting manager to see if these leaves can be adjusted in future balance. Before doing so, he should keep in mind his past records of leaves and how well he has performed.
Managers do help their team in such scenarios if team members have developed a good rapport with their managers in terms of attendance, leave, work performance, and meeting deadlines, among other things.
Thanks!

Hey Rajesh,
Here, he can avail SL and EL. We can combine EL and SL in cases where the employee is unwell for an extended period and doesn't have enough SL. If any SL is left in his account, then he can take SL and the remaining EL. It also depends on his management if they can provide him with Advanced EL after completing 6 months in the organization. Both SL and EL can be taken together.
Thanks

If a person has 10 casual leaves to his credit balance, he can apply for it. Although CL is generally not given for a longer duration; however, under "exceptional" circumstances, it can be granted. It all depends on (i) the employee-friendliness of the organization; (ii) the reputation of the employee himself (a dedicated employee who doesn't take much leave); and (iii) a positive inclination of the competent authority to grant CL.
Warm regards.

Long leave for 10 days will necessarily have to be EL. In this case, 3 days will be treated as EL, and the balance 7 days will be LWP. However, some companies have a practice of granting EL in advance to help the employee from suffering a loss of pay. This is adjusted against future accumulation of EL. You may like to consider this.

The employee can avail of 3 Earned Leaves (EL), and the remaining period of absence can be adjusted against the EL during the accounting period, provided that you obtain approval, as taking leave is a privilege. Otherwise, 7 days will be considered as unpaid leave.
