Hi there, this is Shaina, and I'm new to this site. I have completed my B.Com, and I want to study further. I am interested in HR, but I don't want to do an MBA full-time. I am thinking of taking up an M.P.M course or a PGDBM from Symbiosis, which is distance learning. Can you please advise me on which of the two is better and from which college I should pursue an M.P.M.? As for an M.P.M., I was considering doing it from Wadia's College, recognized by AICTE and affiliated with Pune University. Please help, I'm confused.

Hi Shaina,
There is no difference between MPM and MBA. In MPM, you will only study HR in the two years, but in MBA, your first year will cover general management and other areas like marketing, finance, and HRM. In the second year, you can choose a specialization according to your preference. So, if you are interested only in HR, then MPM is a good choice. However, if you want to explore other areas along with HR, MBA will be more suitable for you.

Hello,
I feel that since you are still in the right learning age and stage, you should pursue a regular (full-time) M.B.A. from a reputed institute. It will broaden your vision regarding organization, management, and HR.
This is not to say that pursuing MPM is bad. However, based on my relatively long association with the profession and management education, I believe that MPM coursework will equip you well for handling specific functions, while developing managerial perspectives will largely depend on your own life skills. On the other hand, an MBA will provide you with significant conceptual knowledge that can expedite the development of your managerial perspectives within a shorter timeframe and with relative ease.
Regarding distance learning courses, my experience is limited. However, I believe that face-to-face interactions with teachers, professionals (visiting faculties), and fellow students enhance the learning experience.
I am puzzled by your reluctance to pursue a regular MBA and instead choosing to invest the same amount of time (two years) in MPM.
If you would like to discuss this topic further, feel free to call!
Best of luck and regards.

Hi Samvedan,
The reason I don't want to do a regular MBA is because along with my graduation, I was working in a BPO. Now, I have taken a break, but I will be joining back in some other organization. As M.P.M. is a part-time course, it will not affect my job. The other option is distance learning, i.e., PGDBM from Symbiosis. I am more keen on H.R. If you can suggest some good colleges where I can do my M.P.M. from, please let me know. Or any good correspondence MBA/PGDBM institutes in Pune.
Thanks

Hi, I am also a Punite and am doing my MBA. I have had an opportunity to interact with both MPM students as well as graduates of both courses. The input I get is that MBA is preferred by MPM students as well, since they realize how important it is to have knowledge of all functions involved like marketing, finance, etc., which isn't available in the MPM course.
Also, I have friends doing the Symbiosis distance learning course and they don't really like it. The exams are not held on time, and the course material is not very good either. I would suggest that you pursue a distance learning course in MBA from Wellingkar Institute in Mumbai. Check out the site. Their course has a wonderful structure, and the study material is far superior to most distance learning institutes.

Which are the best/good colleges for doing MPM in Pune? I am staying in Mumbai and planning to pursue an MPM from Pune as I have realized that after completing PGDBA (HR), I am not very thorough with Labor Laws. Hence, many of my HR colleagues are advising me to opt for MPM.

Hi Shaina,
I am also confused like you. I am interested in HR only, but I am not sure whether MPM is better or PGDBM is better. One of my colleagues told me that MPM is much better than PGDBM. However, there are still some questions in my mind about the fees – how much I have to pay for MPM over two years. I want to know the complete details of the fees. Please help me with this.

Hi there,
I am in my second year of M.P.M. Well, until now, I have never been regular to college because of my work. Exams also have not been going that well. I have a ATKT in each semester. I want to know if I now get serious with my course, would I get a good job in the future? Also, without attending classes but learning with the books, would it help?
Please advise on what would be the best option in this.
