Just wanted to know your valuable feedback, as I have applied for the XLRI PGCHRM course and received their email of selection. I'm a little confused as I don't have much experience in HR, but in my current organization, my AVP: HR has started giving me some HR-related work, like coordination with candidates and consultants, onboarding, and the first round of interviews, etc. I am working as an executive assistant.

Value of the XLRI PGCHRM Course

So, I just wanted to know whether doing this course will add value to my CV and if there is any chance that I will get a good job in HR in the near future. The fee is high, and I need to take a loan for the same. Please provide your feedback and suggestions; I need to reply to them within 4-5 days about whether I'm interested in this course or not.

Dear Priya ji,

Let me first congratulate you on getting selected with one of the leading premium business schools in our country. Certainly, this certificate course will add value to your profile. I am sure that one day you will become a matured HR Expert upon completing this certificate course. You should refrain from using any short forms as you did in this post and avoid taking shortcuts in your professional life.

My best wishes!

Hello Priya,

Please share course details. Is the course full-time or third-party distance education? XLRI Jamshedpur has started offering distance education, and I am not sure about the eligibility for the course. Third-party providers only offer certificate assurance; please confirm with them regarding Placement Assistance. I would not advise you to join these courses if it is a distance education program. Avoid taking a loan for any distance education.

PS: Personal Opinion.

Hi Ashish,

It's a satellite program with two days of classes per week for one year. There is no placement assistance provided. The certificate will be awarded by XLRI only. The fee is around 2.50 lakh.

As I don't have any experience in HR, I am getting very confused about whether I should pursue this program now or wait for a year or two.

Hi Vishnu Priya, now you have more or less enough details to make a decision. Since your superior has started allotting HR jobs, you have already made a beginning in gathering experience. You are the best judge to know how much HR work you are doing now and how much you will continue to do in the days to come. So please do not worry about experience. Take it as something that is already there.

Once the certification is from XLRI, there should not be any problem in recognition. If yours is not the first batch, you can seek the advice of your seniors in this matter.

According to me, the most important point from my side is to take the comments made by Shri Nathrao seriously. Whether you decide to do the XLRI course or not, there is an immediate need to check and correct your style of writing. After finishing a draft fully, go through it to see that everything is written properly and correctly. It does not take more than two or three minutes to read the contents stacked in a full page of A4 size.

Communication skills are important and go a long way in one’s career and beyond. I hope when you make your next posting, you will take those extra minutes to make a good readable presentation.

Regards, V. Raghunathan
