Dear friends,
I am 46 years old and have been working for about 20 odd years in Admin and Management departments. I am one of those people whose line of study and work do not correlate. I did my graduation from Mumbai and a Diploma in Export Management and Administration from Delhi. However, I work in the Administration and Management department of the Entertainment industry. I am planning to pursue a Distance Learning MBA. Do you think this will be helpful in my work? It would also provide me with an additional qualification. Please send me your comments and advice as soon as possible.

Dear "Dost",
My advice to you would be to pursue an additional course in facilities management, which would enhance your chances of getting a promotion or a better opening in your current field of work. If you are planning to switch careers or change your field of work, at your age and with your experience, I would not advise you to do the same.
Warm regards and wish you the very best,
Samba Siva.

Dear,
I really appreciate your interest in wanting to do an MBA. Age is no criterion for learning, and learning is an ongoing process. Nowadays, a good number of universities offer a wide variety of courses to suit individual needs and budgets. So go ahead! Pursuing this will not only add to your list of qualifications but also enhance your knowledge and potentially lead to a pay increase. Choose a good university; it makes a big difference.
You mention that your area of study doesn't directly relate to your current job. However, do you enjoy what you do? Assuming you do, let me tell you one thing: it feels good to work in a field you're passionate about, degree or no degree. Yet, having a degree (or knowledge) can provide a strong foundation to improve your effectiveness at work. I believe that both theory and practice are essential for productivity. Without theory, practice is blind, and without practice, theory is sterile. Do you agree?
RGS.
