dear frns, what is the reasons behind asking family members during an interview? Asking about a family members, how many brothers and sister, where and what they etc... is it fair? thanks

The family background of a talent is asked during the interview to check behavioral fit. Often, certain companies have the policy to check the alignment of the talent and its family background. It helps an interviewer to predict certain behaviors.
Suppose a talent who says, 'My parents have been working in a transferable job,' it may mean the talent would be open to relocation if required during the employment. Furthermore, if a talent shares that 'My family manages a business through generations,' it would be necessary for the interviewer to check the need of the talent to look for the job. Though it also means the talent to have certain degrees of entrepreneurial capabilities. But then most of these deductions are probabilities.
The results from these questions do not form a mark on the stone. But it is considered only to an extent.
