Today, we crossed the 100 million unique visitors' mark. This community has touched the lives of 100 million unique professionals and students. This is a great landmark for our community, and I hope we'll continue to touch the lives of many millions in the future.

That's INDEED GREAT NEWS—something EVERYONE at CiteHR OUGHT TO and WILL BE PROUD OF. I hope the same tempo is maintained by all the active members—since it's THEIR advice, suggestions, and exhortations that make this Portal worth viewing for the unique visitors. Like they say in the IT industry, it's tough and takes time to reach the FIRST Billion Dollar mark, but the next Billion comes faster and much easier...presuming the same tempo is maintained. Hope we reach the BILLION visitor mark sooner than later.

It's unbelievable what the power of a few generous people can do. Our network probably has just a few thousand contributors like you, Taj. But those small drops of generous shares are like bowls of nectar that never get exhausted. Hundreds and thousands learn from those few lines of text shared by someone knowledgeable. However crude and unemotional the business world seems, people always find a way to connect and help each other. It somehow replenishes my faith in humanity.

You are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT, Sid. And the credit for this ACHIEVEMENT goes to EVERYONE who's taking some time off their busy schedules and WITHOUT... and this is the MOST important aspect... expectation of any returns. Like the quote goes: "Share your food & you feed someone for a day; Share your money & you will feed someone for a year; Share your knowledge & you will feed someone for a lifetime." And it's in the third type of sharing that the sharer DOESN'T reduce whatever he/she already has. Your line '...those small drops of generous shares...' reminds me of a childhood quote, familiar to everyone: "Little drops of water make a mighty ocean."

Besides the above-highlighted parameter, I think the duration of engagement per visitor and per visit must also be very high! Congratulations to all!

Raj Kumar has given a good suggestion of tracking the Engagement Durations. I wouldn't trust the 'average/mean' measurement system to give actionable info regarding this aspect of CiteHR. Like the quote goes: "If your head is in the fridge and legs in the oven, on an 'average' you are perfectly comfortable."

Maybe a range would give meaningful values (<1 hour, 1-2 hours... and so on). I think this would be of value from the SEO point of view also. Is this doable?

The average visit duration is about 3 minutes. Cite.Co is mainly used on a need basis as it doesn't really provide entertaining or voyeuristic content. About 1% of the users spend more than an hour per visit—these are the main collaborators, and the count is just above 30K. The count for people who spend about 30 minutes is just above 100K. The count of people spending about 5-30 minutes per visit is about 150K.

SEO Trends and Importance of Validation

SEO is changing a lot. Words, on-page factors, or links matter much less than they used to. What matters now is validation and who that validation is coming from. This is why we have the Google + buttons on every page now.

For example, if you validate a page and your profile on Google is focused on HR, then we will rank better for HR terms where you have influence. Without validation, pages don't count for much anymore.

The contributions made by each member towards any query or extended help provide a drop of knowledge, fire, and excitement to learn more. It also guides us towards further learning and exploration in the field of HR.

Invite HR Gurus to Join CiteHR

In my opinion, we should invite HR gurus to join CiteHR for discussions either on the site itself or on social networking sites, preferably Twitter. This way, both existing and new members can learn about the practical aspects of HR and clarify their doubts.

Once again, I thank all our members, and especially our founder, Sid, for achieving this goal. Without him, we would not be here together on one platform, learning and sharing our knowledge.

Thanks, everyone. I cannot accept credit for this. The credit entirely goes to the people who have shared their time and knowledge generously, without having any expectations in return. We make it a point to have no points or badges other than a senior member tag. My role is, and has always been, to keep the engine going—so this is like a crowd-sourced ship where we have many captains, mentors, and students, and I am in the engine room.

Strengths and Weaknesses of Our Community

Our biggest strength and our biggest weakness are the same—we don't have a corporate star promoting this community. It's a strength because people are not in the shadow of someone who wants attention, and a weakness because, at times of financial crunch, we can't sell any sponsorships. Actually, we are just not good at selling, but had it been a corporate star running this, sponsorship would not have been an issue. People (not enough) don't really donate in India, so the Wikipedia kind of revenue is out. The ads we run are not that profitable—had we been in the US or UK, the ads would've generated a lot—but not in India. Because of this, we have almost died many times but have managed to stay afloat. But this probably happens with all companies, so I take it as part of life. That's my story, Pawan.
