Dear Joshi, The salary slip normally does not contain the mode of payment. As per the provisions of the Income Tax Act, 1961, if your net salary is Rs. 20,000/- or above, your company should disburse your salary through your bank account. If it is less, the payment will be made in cash on the stipulated date. This is the common practice followed by all companies and organized sectors. If you are receiving the salary as per the payslip or not? If yes, forget about the mode of payment.

The Payment of Wages Act, 1936 stipulates as under with regard to mode of payment :
"6. Wages to be paid in current coin or currency notes –
All wages shall be in current coin or currency notes or in both :
Provided that the employer may after obtaining the written authorisation of the employed person pay him the wages either by cheque or by crediting the wages in his bank account."
So long as they adhere to the above sec. it's OK if your office is covered under this act.

Hi members,

There is no specific format for a payslip, so people are designing the payslip in their pattern. It is better to mention a bank account if paid through a bank, as it is statutory to pay the salary through the bank. However, many organizations are not doing so.

Payment Methods on Pay Slips

Most establishments employing a larger number of employees use pre-printed pay slips. These pay slips contain various details about the employees, such as their name, employee number, month, salary details, deductions, net pay, leave balance, EPF Number/ESI Number, and the chosen mode of payment—whether cash, cheque, or through a bank account number. For those who receive their salaries through bank accounts, only the bank name or code is mentioned, while the account number is kept confidential for security reasons. A detailed list of codes, along with employee information and net salary, is sent to the respective banks to facilitate salary crediting to the account holders. The key consideration here is the mode of payment, whether by cash or through a bank. Cheque payments are generally discouraged due to the additional workload they entail.

Payment Details on Salary Slips

Most companies mention the mode of payment as well as the account number of the employee for easy reference. The employee can easily check with the bank for any discrepancies in salary payments.

Providing details of the members contributing to the discussions (with photos, location, etc.) is appreciated and is a good practice so that members asking queries or seeking clarifications can benefit from seeing and knowing the expert providing the replies.

It would be helpful to provide the name of the person asking the question and their location so that those viewing the discussions can know where the question is originating from.

Thank you.
