Dear Seniors, kindly guide me. Recently, I have joined an FMCG company. Here, I want to start an appraisal system, but employees are not willing to fill out appraisal forms, and seniors are also not ready to provide employee remarks in writing.

Kindly suggest the best idea to start this process.

Dear Sharma HR,

It appears that you do not have a proper policy on Performance Appraisal (PA) well in place. When employees join the company, during induction itself, they should be told when their appraisal will take place. Secondly, any policy, whether on PA or otherwise, is issued by the MD. When the policies are signed by the MD, nobody dares to defy it. Lastly, PA is an OD intervention. Any OD intervention needs to have support from top management. Therefore, I recommend you first convince the MD of your company on the importance of PA. Everything else is secondary.

Introduction of performance appraisal system is the prerogative of the Management. No need to seek employees' concurrence.

Dear Ms. Sharma,

It's good that you are planning to implement an appraisal system in your company. Simply roll out an email to the heads of departments with the attachment of appraisal forms, highlighting that it is mandatory to have them filled out by subordinates inclusive of supervisors' feedback.

Please set a deadline for the same and conduct one-on-one sessions with all of them.
