Dear Seniors, I am facing discrimination at my work by my employer. I am working as an HR. If an employee is facing some problem, they will come to HR, but as an HR, what should I do when my employer (Managing Director) is humiliating me? Each and every time, they blame me because I am not a localite. There is discrimination against locals in my company.

Company Background and Current Situation

The company is a new venture, and I work as an HR reporting to the managing director. When I joined, they promised me many things, but they are not fulfilling their promises. They verbally offered me more but are paying me less. They told me that after completing a three-month probation period, I could take one day off per month. This month, I took a day off due to viral fever and cough. The next day, I went to the office out of fear of being marked absent. However, I was not well, so they asked me to leave and rest. I left the office around 12:30 PM, but they marked me absent for the entire day. When I questioned why this was done, they said there was no leave available. I reminded them that I had completed my probation period and was entitled to a day off, but they rudely replied, "There is no leave." Whenever I tried to talk to them, I always received the same response, "I am busy now, I will talk to you later," and that "later" never came. They always find small reasons to point out my mistakes.

Leadership Changes and Accusations

In my company, there were two directors, but due to some disagreement, Mr. X resigned from the directorship, and Mr. Y became the managing director. Now I report to Mr. Y, who is also humiliating me. Somehow, confidential information about the company is being leaked to Mr. X. Today, Mr. Y asked me the following:

MR. Y: Did Mr. X ever call you?

Me: No, he did not call me.

MR. Y: Don't lie.

Me: Why should I lie? He has never called me since I joined this company.

I do not understand why I am being accused when I have done nothing wrong. I am afraid of what accusations he might make against me. I am feeling overwhelmed and helpless. I have never been in such a situation before. I do not know what to do.

Seniors, please help me. As an HR, I am facing discrimination. What can I do about it? Please help me.

Regards,
Sangeeta Debnath

In this situation, you should not get emotional or overly sensitive. Keep yourself cool. By maintaining your composure, the other party will naturally become nervous.

Whenever you receive an offer, ensure you have it in writing. Verbal offers can be twisted or modified at will. Look for other opportunities and leave the organization peacefully with a smile. Please convey thanks to the Managing Director for the learning opportunity. If you take any action against the organization, you will only lose your peace of mind.

Thank you.
