Hi
Any field in HR is challenging. Hosiptal is also equally challenging where you have lots of scope to build your career. Now a days hospitals have all peculiar functions of HR including Unions. As you say they are in process of starting a HR dept which will help to know about various aspects like license, policy framing, payroll, statutory requirements and many, so you will have hands on experience in all agmut of HR.
Now there is no restriction in HR to get into any sector. If you are well aware of the functions and current trends, you can switch to any industy including manufacturing. But you will struggle alot since its a begining phase, your learning will be extra ordinary and all the learning will help you to have a bright future.
Secondly, its your choice to make up your mind between two offers you have. If you prefer to work in a existing functions then you can go with the retail, if u want to learn the base of HR then you can join that hospital.

Getting into any industry is not such easy in Current HR Market, My Advice would be since you have both the RECRUITMENT as well as GENERALIST Experience you can very well take up a new environent with new domain to work... so where ever you the same function is going to be performed in HR.. you have good choice right now for getting into Hospital setting.. GO AHEAD WITH GUTS...

Dear Arunachalam
It is nice to have one executive in a Hospital to open such a discussion.
Don't go only to recruitment and initial processing only. As the Human Factor in Health Care Delivery System is so prominent you should concentrate on Training. Previously Hospital managements take many unfair steps to retain employees but that period is gone. Now a place to learn and progress in profession will keep employees with an organization. Motivating people by providing best opportunities for growth is the only way in healthcare industry for RETENTION OF TALENTS.
I could not find any alternatives for this in my 17ys of service in Hospitals.
Wishing You All the Best
