My firm, in association with Employers Federation of India conducts labour law compliance audits for a number of companies. What exactly do you wish to know. And from what point of view ? You want to do such an audit or you need it done for your company ?

Interesting discussion! The CLRA speaks of labour employed through a contractor. If there is no contractor (as defined in the CLRA) there is no contract labour. If you hire temporary labourers directly, you are not covered by the CLRA but will certainly be covered by the ID Act and related legislation.
Your first question was about the type of work that can be entrusted to contract labour. Only Andhra Pradesh has defined \'core activities\' in this context. In other States and in Centrally controlled units, the parameters of Section 10 need to be followed - however, most units ignore this until there is a specific notification by the appropriate government prohibiting the deployment of contract labour in these areas. This is a very complex area. If you want more details, please contact me on stanleycoutinho1@gmail.com.
