Respected Lalitha;
I am intrigued to read that you are a gold medalist and do not know the compliance under labour laws. Take the bare copy of the Acts and find yourself from the rules and forms thereunder. Unless you make a list yourself, you will neither learn nor remember. Give up the desire of having something readymade from others without any self efforts.

your manager is doing what is correct...he is a manager , he also knows how to manage employees, and enlighten them,,,,sharing all statutory provisions wont be enough credible, if you don't have good base on labour laws and statutory compliance.
you are again looking for books and references , although you only said , that you lack practical exposure..you are not able to justify your job, because you are not clear with your job description . ask for it if they haven't provided you, and if they had , then go through it first, know why you are required, whats your role, may be your role doesn't require to be legal provisions savvy.
When time will come your manager will share info with you and rely upon your capabilities but provided you should be in such positions to deserve it, and that doesn't come so easily or at such early stage.
