As per the ideal situation, no company has the right to withhold the salary of any of its employees while an employee is serving the notice period, considering that it is as per the employment letter provided to the employee. In case your notice period is under shortfall as per the employment clause mentioned in your appointment letter, then the company can withhold the salary. Otherwise, ethically, the company cannot engage in such practices against its employees.

This situation has happened to me, and I am working with an MNC. Upon asking HR, they provided the reason that the day one resigns, the salary is put on hold and is settled on an F&F basis. However, no such thing is mentioned in the offer letter/appointment letter. Please guide me through this.
