Hi all,
I am working with a Brand MNC since Aug'10. As per the appraisal cycle, I got 7% hike on my ctc this year. But as per the performance and organisation criteria, this hike is too low. They have not provide any ratings on the self appraisal yet. I want to write a mail to show my dissatisfaction and ask them the criteria they used for deciding the hike %, as it is different among peers. Pls help ans suggest with the mail.

Hello Piyush,
Instead of writing a letter, it is advisable to talk to your senior / boss.
You can speak very politely but exhibiting your strong willingness to know the rationale behind the appraisal system. You are comparitively new to the organization. Directly issuing dis-satisfaction letter without understanding the whole process can have negative impact.
In case your boss did not respond properly, then you can contact your HR helpdesk.
Hope this will help you.

Hello Piyush,
Vaishalee is right.
But I suggest you to wait until you get your Ratings--assuming that's standard procedure.
You will then have a better picture of the whole process & would be able to calibrate your response to the 'actual' rather than to assumptions.
And when you do indeed take it up with the concerned person(s), suggest focus on the specific issue rather than 'in general terms', meaning--instead of saying 'I am not happy with my hike' focus on the exact rating & also be prepared to give 'YOUR' reasons, with any specific evidences, for your objections.

Hey Piyush,
As TS suggested, I would also say that just prepare( or collect)all the documents speaking about your contribution to the relevant field and then state reasons for objections on given ratings.
thorough preparation from your side will surely benefit. All the best!!

Dear Piyush
As advised by TS and Archana collect all the material evidence on your support wait for your appraisal ratings declaration and then proceed further.
Otherwise you will get boomerang effect which may spoil your entire reputation and rapport you gained.

Hi Piyush,
You might have received hike on 'pro-rata' basis. Most of the MNC's, I know, follow this practice of giving pro-rata hike to employees based on the number of months completed.
Since you joined in Aug'10, you have worked only 7 months for the company in the last year. If all employees, who were with the company for full 12 months, get 12% hike, then you are eligible for only 7% hike. Infact you have also received 12% hike, but just due to less number of months completed, you may not be eligible to receive full 12%, but pro-rata to only 7%.
Hope I am clear.

Thanks Archana & Bhaskar, I have done the same and waiting for the appraisal ratings now.
@Asgars: It sounds justified but the main problem is that the process is not transperant. We didn't get the performance reatings or even managers has not discussed about any growth or performance. HR just sent a copy of appraisal letter by mail last week.

My very dear friend Piyush,
first of all, dont get disappointed, my boss is alwasy saying us 3 sentences
1) Try to change your self as per office system.
2) try to change office system as per you.
3) if you do both and result come same, last option leave the organization happily.
but
As TS & Vaishali suggested, I would also say that just prepare all the documents speaking about your work & achievments to the relevant field and then state reasons for objections on given ratings.
Do dont get disappointed, Life is Life, Fight for it... Keep Smiling on your face.......
Wish you all the best !!!!
