Hi,
I am Venu, MBA (HR). I have been recruited as an HR executive for a small company. Since the company doesn't have an HR department, my MD has given me the responsibility to establish an HR department. As I don't have experience regarding HR policies, please guide me on the activities and policies that need to be implemented. Your support would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Venu Pittala

Dear Venu,
I understand what you're going through because I was in exactly the same situation 10 months ago. Regarding policies, I can provide you with some formats. But before that, I suggest you look around and ask around. They would have some policies, e.g., leave policy, attendance policy, code of conduct, security policy. If not in writing, they would know them verbally. It would be beneficial for you to note them down. Since this is the first time, it would help you more if you tried to start by formulating an employee handbook.
Once you are sure about the leave policy and attendance policy, you can explore the travel policy, communication (mobile/email/inter-office memos) policy, etc. As you grow in the organization, so will your flair to develop the policies. For the rest, feel free to get in touch with me for any formats you are looking for. I will be happy to help you formulate the policies.
