Dear Seniors,
I am working in a very small company having staff of 40 people here out of which 80% staff are very old and working since almost 5 to 10 years in this organisation.
There was no HR earlier and system is relly spolied. I have joined here in September and made Policies procudures, Attendance and time management system etc.
As these employees have never followed any rule and are aware that out MD will not throw them out in any case, they are all harresing me in different means.
This is not affecting much to me but still not confirtable working here.
What shall I do in such case and how to handle them ????
Awaiting response.
Regards,
Amee.

Wat a demotivating statement. We make policies for the employees and against them. Shall I give a very frank opinion Mr. Amee. Quit. It will be hell lot of a task for you bring these loyal liability on track. Try and find a better option.

Now is the time to prove yourself as Real HR, you know, Quitting the Job is not at all advisable,Ultimately "HR" is only to handle human related issues, try to explain the policies as benefits to the employees and orginazation whether they may be of long run. But, if you loose hope, you cannot survive, though it may be in another company you may face same problems.
Amee, In fact you are appointed to look over such issues, you should prove yourself to the management.
All the best!!

I agree with Mr. Nirmal Anand. Before few months I was at same position but gradually I win the confidence of management & employees. Still not 100% but there is lot of difference. So, never loose hope talk with employees . It will take time but you will definately able to make your position in the organisation.

Dear Amee
I was also at the same place. Even I had joined a new company in Sept 2009. and we have mostly old staff. All the policies which I had made was been disapproved as I took help from Senior members who were running the co. according to them.
Then I approached the Director for each and every small thing and took approval on paper.
Now I dont have any problem, I have started ID Card issuance, prepared Employee Hand Book, changed the many policies, also.
I would suggest you to take approval from your Reporting Boss and get the matter. Intelligence is to be shown in correct way & time. Do it no one can stop you from introducing policies which is correct.
Also, tell me what type of Harassment you are facing????

Amee,

IT feels demotived and supressed when employees are against you.One question do ask yourself if thee is harassment that you r facing or just plan resistance to change.Understand there point of view as well form many yrs they had upper hand and now you r teaching a spoiled child to behave:).so they r going to crib, shout, pressurise etc..on other hand you want them to work and work with full productivity,so you need there cooperation.

1.Involve line manangers in policy building.

2.Take senior managemtn into confidence for every policy you make.if they r commited in change then you can take it forward otherwise on man show won' t work.

3.Start with less contradicting acts or prodcures and policy.

4.Involve with employess ,talk to them on everyday basis creat rapport with them know what really can help them? impliment that frist.

5.prove thr your action that you care for them and their jobs to work better.

6.Present policies making linemanager or supervisor thr there point of view as to how easy will be for them if you have manual to give it to new people.

Remember its not about you or work you r doing its human nature ..and it takes time to expect and absorb new things and changes. You will have to keep your panitents high.

I won;t say you wn;t get a good job or etc..I feel god has given you best opporunity to grow as a hauman being cross your bounderies and learn new skills. So take up changellange.you will so happy fill fullfilled once things settle a bit and after all what is a company without people so they r your ppl understand comfort them that its not for sucking more work from them its for better company and growth.I wish you all the best.

Do update us how it is going what is working for you and your company.

cheers!!!

Dear Amee,
First take your MD in confidence and make him understand the positive aspects of the policies which you have prepared, if still the situation remains the same, then play dirty where ur importance is not affected. I am an Manager HR and working for last 4 yrs for the same company like yours. Even I was in same situation like yours and when I was just an AM, no one above me but the directors. I plaed dirty. I asked one of the labour officer to vist and perform audit. There it was and they fianlly came to know the importance of HR and being worked and governed under such policies. All the best.

These are the common problems when OD or changes management takes place.Do one common thing try to formalise all your policies trough reporting system & no.When These numbers would reflect with the mang. they would automatically react as the mang. would be having no choice.Another suggestion would be try to bring in some certificatiob like ISO then the menbers would again have no choice.Do not directly confrint let them take the lead.

Pls communicate through emails by putting ur Boss in cc.
Second point is in case if any one is not following also put them in main and put ur boss and their boss in cc.
B Strong. Maturity will not come for few people even if their hair turns grey.
Please Remember - Even though every one including MD of the company may have EGO.
Being HR we should not have it. Because in your house even though you do many mistakes or you shout at ur mother also she will still love you like that only. In the same way HR should play maternal role in any organisation.
Cheer up Buddy.
Feel proud that you have a privilage of excusing that many people in the earlier stage of your career itself.
For further clarifications you may always write to me in case if you feel to share any thing on the same.
