HI,
Holding last month salary is a general practice followed by all companies to safeguard the company's interest against any possible recovery from the resigned employee which may arise at the time of full and final settlement. But it is sure that every thing due to the employee is paid at the time of final settlement including the last month salary.
As far as statutory deductions like PF /ESI etc are concerned they will be deducted as ususal becoz the employer is responsible for there deduction and deposit.
Best Regards
Rajendra
