Hi! Mr. Pankaj Trivedi
I have gone through UAE LABOUR LAWS which you have sent and also I come across another labor law called "FEDERAL LAW NO:8, FOR 1980 ON REGULATIONS OF LABOR RELATIONS".
Both the labor laws (UAE LABOUR LAW & FEDERAL LAW) are the same or different.
Please clarify which one is applicable in the UAE.

PRABAKARAN

Hi Prabhakaran,
Labor law in the UAE is governed by Federal Law No. 8 of 1980 Regulating Labor Relations; hence, both documents are the same. There have been several amendments to the Act, which are mentioned in the provided PDF files.

Hi,
I have been working for a private company in Abu Dhabi for just over 18 months. The company is currently in financial difficulty, and in the last few weeks, they laid off staff without prior notice, and all layoffs were with immediate effect due to redundancy. No 30-day notice period was given to the staff members. I am currently unsure if I will receive a notice, as the company is holding back on notifying the staff listed for redundancy. I believe this is to prevent panic among staff members.
My question is, what is the company's policy regarding the termination of contracts? Do they have the right to lay off staff with immediate effect solely for redundancy reasons? What are my rights in this matter if it should happen to me?
Thanks, PHA
