Group Interview Tips

TIPS ON GROUP DISCUSSION

What is Group Discussion?

When facing an interview most of the candidates are sorted out in the Group Discussion round. The Group Discussion also called as GD is the toughest part of the interview. In a group discussion the interviewer give a topic to the interviewees on which they have to speak out their views either on positive side or on the negative side. In this round the number of the interviewees are from 5 to 10. It changes from company to company. If the interviewees are much more than the number of the post in the company, then the company can take a large number of interviewees per one GD round

It is only the best way to sort out the candidates from an interview. On the completion of this GD round, the interviewer will select only 1 or 2 persons out of those many people.

What are the main things we have to learn while attending an interview?

Looks- The first impression is the best impression. Here it comes with your looks. How well you dressed up on the day of the interview. The nice clothing will also improve the level of confidence in you. Your well dressing will also affects the view of the interviewer. Some time in the Group discussion if you impress the interviewer with your looks than the percentage of getting success in the GD round is automatically increases while comparing to others.

Fear- Take out the words Fear from your mind that you are not a brilliant student. Think that the interviewees sitting with you in that interview are not more intelligent than you. Try to mingle with the other candidates in the interview to remove your fear from your inside.

Time to speak- Time is a main factor in any field. Selecting a right time to speak is plus point to catch the attention of the crowd in the group discussion. While speaking speak slow with clear pronunciation, so that everyone can understand your points. Do not speak less than 2 minutes if it is personal introduction round.

Who are you: Try to understand yourself before attending an interview. The general question in the interview is “Tell me about yourself”. It is the very strong question in the interview. Be honest most of the time. Try to prepare your profile as per the post requirement is there.

Tips to get success in the Group Discussion

News papers: Reading news paper not only gives you the knowledge about the current affairs but also make aware of the new English words and improve your vocabulary skills. Reading loudly will improve your reading speed and accent.

Mirror: The mirror shows our inner feelings. When we try to speak in front of the mirror we can easily judge our expression while we talking with others. We can improve our expression as well as the way of talking with other by practicing before a mirror. It will also improve your confidence level and the chance of clearing the GD successfully.

Discuss the topic which you learn today with your family or friends: Daily discuss a topic which you learn today with your friends and family member. You can take the help of your friends and the family members to rectify your faults while speaking. Assume your mom and dad as the interviewer and ask them to give a topic of their choice. You will now have to speak on that topic. While you speaking about the topic , put a question tag and confirm your view with any of the other member in the room, for ex: isn't it Mr. xyz, cant it possible, etc. , then say thanks for confirmation and continue on your topic.

Note: Group Discussion (GD) is not a debate competition. Be polite and loud your voice so that your view can reach to the hear of each and every other person in the GD. Do not fight in the GD even though you think that he is wrong. Try to listen the views of the other members in the group discussion clearly and respond according to that. Listening is also a part of GD. Thats it!!! Just take a good sleep on the night before the day of the interview and rock the interview with a cool and piece mind.

All the best...:)

NUMBER TRICKS

Multiply Up to 20X20

In just FIVE minutes you should learn to quickly multiply up to 20x20 in your head. With this trick, you will be able to multiply any two numbers from 11 to 19 in your head quickly, without the use of a calculator.

Assume that you know your multiplication table reasonably well up to 10x10.

Try this:

Take 15 x 13 for an example.

Always place the larger number of the two on top in your mind.

Then draw the shape of Africa mentally so it covers the 15 and the 3 from the 13 below. Those covered numbers are all you need.

First add 15 + 3 = 18

Add a zero behind it (multiply by 10) to get 180.

Multiply the covered lower 3 x the single digit above it the "5" (3x5= 15)

Add 180 + 15 = 195.

That is It! Wasn't that easy? Practice it on paper first!

---------------------

The 11 Rule

You likely all know the 10 rule (to multiply by 10, just add a 0 behind the number) but do you know the 11 rule? It is as easy! You should be able to do this one in you head for any two digit number. Practice it on paper first!

To multiply any two digit number by 11:

For this example we will use 54.

Separate the two digits in you mind (5__4).

Notice the hole between them!

Add the 5 and the 4 together (5+4=9)

Put the resulting 9 in the hole 594. That's it! 11 x 54=594

The only thing tricky to remember is that if the result of the addition is greater than 9, you only put the "ones" digit in the hole and carry the "tens" digit from the addition. For example 11 x 57 ... 5__7 ... 5+7=12 ... put the 2 in the hole and add the 1 from the 12 to the 5 in to get 6 for a result of 627 ... 11 x 57 = 627

--------------------------------

9X Rule

To multiply by 9,try this:

(1) Spread your two hands out and place them on a desk or table in front of you.

(2) To multiply by 3, fold down the 3rd finger from the left. To multiply by 4, it

would be the 4th finger and so on.

(3) the answer is 27 ... READ it from the two fingers on the left of the folded down finger and the 7 fingers on the right of it.

This works for anything up to 9x10!

TIPS TO IMPRESS YOUR BOSS

We all know it, if you have to stay happy at work, it is crucial to have a happy boss. Your boss shapes your career - salary hike, responsibilities, appraisal etc. If you think it is only your hard work and success that impresses your boss, think again. The criterion for any boss is quality of your work and the impression you have on everyone. So, it is as important to be good as it is to do good. Just learn to score your points and strive towards making an impression

Demonstrate motivation and confidence: Tell your supervisors about your aspirations and ask them to give you more responsible work. Take up whatever work you are given with confidence and perform aggressively. Talk confidently to people. Showing motivation and confidence towards work goes a long way in creating a good impression on supervisors.

Observe and listen carefully: Observe how your boss and other senior employees behave in the office. Listen to what they have to say. This way, you not only learn how business is conducted in the office but also learn about their individual working style. Remember - these people, with their rich background and knowledge, can be good mentors too.

Avoid gossiping: Gossiping is an evil that haunts every workplace. A lot of people merrily indulge in the same, not realizing the damage it can cause. Stay away! Listen to what the gossip mongers have to say to keep yourself updated about latest happenings in the office, but do not comment or participate. Unnecessary gossiping can lead to trouble with colleagues and supervisors and you will certainly not want any negative publicity.

Develop good working relations: Try to understand the working styles of your boss and your co-workers and help them understand yours. Develop good working relations with colleagues to ensure cooperation while executing critical projects. This way, you will not only be able to complete your work efficiently but will also be able to leave an impression on your co-workers and supervisors.

Help your boss with day-to-day tasks: There will be many tasks that your boss performs on a daily basis. Take up some of the responsibilities that you can perform without affecting your own work. This will help you to prepare yourself for the road uphill and create a good impression on your boss.

If you succeed in making a mark, you can expect trust and confidence to come your way. The confidence and faith that you win, coupled with your sincere efforts will undoubtedly take you a long way

TIPS TO OVERCOME STAGE FEAR

Know your stuff! The best thing you can do is to be overwhelmingly, thoroughly, and completely prepared and in mastery of your material. Much of the fear comes from wondering if you will make a mistake, or if the audience will know more than you. There is one sure way to beat that and that is by knowing your material inside and out.

Focus on getting through the first five minutes. That is where the problem lies. Rarely do you see someone who seems fearful all the way through his or her presentation, do you? No, they settle in and get comfortable after a while. Don’t look at it as a fifty-minute speech. Look at it as a five-minute speech.

Breathe! Fear is a bodily reflex and one that you can overcome. When you get afraid, you start to breathe in short, fast breaths. Before you speak, or while you are being introduced, you should sit quietly and breathe slow, deep breaths.

Tell yourself that the world won’t fall apart if you do a rotten job. Face it; unless you are delivering the State of the Union Address, the world will keep right on revolving if you don’t do well. Even as a professional speaker there are times when I don’t do as well as I want to (Very, very rarely though - keep those bookings coming!). People usually appreciate it anyway and you’ll keep right on going.

Understand that you are your own worst critic. I had some friends who used to play in all the hot clubs in New York City and I would occasionally go with them to watch them perform. Afterwards they would say, "Oh man, we were terrible tonight!" I hadn’t thought so. The audience hadn’t thought so either. Most people aren’t going to come to your presentation with the goal of picking you apart. So you shouldn’t pick yourself apart either. Obviously, this is mainly for the one giving the occasional talk, not the professional speaker.

Understand that most of the people in the audience would be scared to death to give a speech too, and are glad that it is you and not them! For the occasional speaker, it is okay to say, "Excuse my nerves, I am not used to this." When I hear that, I root for the guy, not cut him apart (Unless I paid big bucks to be there.)

Make ‘em laugh. That is the best way to start with a crowd. I have a joke that I start 95% of all of my speeches with. It is a guaranteed laugh and always settles the crowd in. Sometimes it has nothing to do with my topic and I just say, "What does that have to do with my topic? Nothing, but I just love that joke!" Then I go into my speech, and we are all a little more relaxed because we have laughed together

TIPS TO DEVELOP SELF-CONFIDENCE

You have to believe in yourself, that's the secret. Even when I was in the orphanage, when I was roaming the street trying to find enough to eat, even then I thought of myself as the greatest actor in the world. I had to feel the exuberance that comes from utter confidence in yourself. Without it, you go down to defeat.

-- Charlie Chaplin

Every time I read this quote I am reminded of the importance of confidence in everything we do. Right or wrong, people treat you in a manner that you allow, so, if you walk in fear you are leaving yourself wide open to a myriad of experiences you can easy avoid with confidence.

But, how do you gain confidence? A task seemingly impossible to some and, for others its as easy as getting up in the morning ready for a bright new day. So, how can this human attribute be so easy for some to acquire and for others it just seems downright impossible?

I am in full belief that confidence is not born in man, but it is created by man. In the interest of creating confidence you must believe you are the master of your own thoughts and beliefs. You must realize that controlling these beliefs is the path to creating the life you desire.

Having confidence begins with having a mind full of confident thoughts. A mind that is controlled by you, therefore believing only the things that will bring to you all the things you desire--and deserve.

Anyone can have confidence. And, it is entirely easier than you may have once believed. And, I believe it is a matter of following these 10-easy steps:

1. Stand like you have confidence. Sit like you have confidence. Walk like you have confidence. Ignore your mind for a while and simply concentrate on the physical attributes of confidence. If you maintain a confident stance long enough, your mind will certainly become convinced.

2. Listen to people. Actually smile at them, look them in the eyes and listen intently to determine what you can learn from them. If you truly listen you will soon find that there can be something learned from everyone. Learning from people and knowing people allows you to emulate the confident attributes of others.

3. Forget everything you see on television and in magazines with regard to the perfect body image. Ranking yourself against the buff laden magazine images can lead to a poor body image which is the perfect partner to a low self-esteem. People are much more likely to become friends with you if you are friendly, smiling and approachable in your manner than they are someone who simply fits the mold of a perfect body. You are a unique creation of God and perfect just as you are. Know your best attributes and play them off well. Once you begin to believe you are an attractive person and allow your personality to let it show you'll realize that the body images you've been fed by the media is a bunch of hooey--and you'll find you're not the only one who believes it. By all means it is healthy to have a good diet and exercise and once you are the healthiest you, you'll realize you are the best you that you can be.

4. Put your family and friends expectations of you out of your mind and follow your heart. People are all to quick to tell you how you should live your life when really its just an expression of their own shortcomings. Don't allow the shortcomings of others to affect your life negatively. No one but you knows your interests and aspirations. Work in the direction of your true loves and ignore everything that enters your consciousness going against your own desires.

5. Set goals. It's a great idea to keep a "Goals Book" and every time something enters your mind that you'd like to achieve, list it in the book. Soon you'll begin to see a pattern among all your goals. When you make conclusions about your goals you begin to see simple changes you can make in your life to make your goals a reality. There is no greater joy in life than to realize a goal and nothing builds confidence faster. Remember, no goal is too small to write in your book. In many instances, realizing small goals are as beneficial to your confidence as realizing the big ones.

6. Challenge your beliefs. Examine all of your beliefs closely and determine if they are in line with the life you desire. If they are not, toss them out. You may find it difficult to get rid of some of the deep seeded long standing beliefs, but, with true desire you can abandon negative beliefs about your self and as you do you will realize immense benefit in growing terrific self confidence and self-esteem.

7. Be your own hero. Perform the short exercise of writing down all the attributes that you admire in others. Be it benevolence, honesty, humor, integrity, whatever the case write it down. Go ahead, make it a long list. The more you note the attributes in others you'll begin to see the type of person that you truly want to be. Begin emulating these attributes into your own life one-by-one until you get through the entire list. Be prepared to enjoy the immense benefits of being your own hero--it feels great.

8. Get into the flow. Keep track of what motivates you and stay near those things. Whether it be reading a motivational book, listening to a lively sermon, or speaking to a loved one find the things that truly motivate you and fill your life with these things. Total immersion in motivation is a quick path to achieving goals, keeping positive thoughts, maintaining healthy relationships and having all the things you desire. Keep that motivational level up and see the miracles happen almost as if by magic.

9. Believe in a power greater than yourself. Determining what percentage of society actually believes in god is fraught with all sorts of room for error. After all, do they really believe? But, I believe it is safe to say that the greater majority of society, in some way, believes in a power greater than themselves. This is a wonderful aspect of human existence, to know there is a power that is governing, and that knows our good. Also, prayer and mediation is among the healthiest practices you can perform as a daily routine to help to get to the root of problems and sort out all of life's little questions. Knowing a power greater than yourself allows you the feeling that you are not alone and that you can truly believe in the power of miracles. Who couldn't use a miracle every now and then.

10. Get started. Don't expect changes right away and have patience in knowing that it takes time be the person you wish to be. There is truth in the old saying that the "joy is in the journey". The wonderful thing about coming a more self-confident person is that little benefits start taking shape almost immediately and, they keep coming one after the other as long as you continue to keep a positive outlook and display your confidence for everyone to see.

As you achieve confidence, and find little moments of confidence coming closer and closer; you will reach a point very soon where there is an exponential growth in self-confidence that will bring great joy into your life and all the things you desire will come to you easier than you ever imagined

STRESS MANAGEMENT TIPS

1.Don't sweat the small stuff. Don't try to ignore feelings of aggravation. Acknowledge them, then look beyond them to specific solutions. If that's not possible; then know that in the next hour, day, or week, the situation will change. Keep your perspective. Are the crises of two years ago important now, or have they been forgotten? Small stressors loom large in the present, but fade quickly if you let them. See them for what they are: small irritants, not earthshaking crises. Mark Twain used to say, "I've had a lot of worries in my life, most of which have never happened."

2.Don't let guilt get to you. Guilt is destructive and can be a major source of unrelenting stress. If you have regrets, and it is possible to apologize to someone or repair some damage done, then do so and move on. Don't let others manipulate you using guilt. Do what you need to do, to make sure it doesn't happen again and be grateful for the lessons learned.

3.Develop coping strategies. Learn that you are not helpless in the situations that trigger stressful responses. Use these triggers to develop more resourceful and useful responses.

4.Learn to accept and adapt to change. Learn to have faith and practice being optimistic even in uncertain situations. Recognize that even the darkest clouds have a silver lining. Look for the opportunity to learn and grow and become more flexible through adversity. Take a leadership approach to problem solving. Don't let your problems immobilize you.

5.Change the way you look at stress. Stress is not an external force. It is the way you react to people, places and things. You have control over that. Look for choices and alternatives. Don't let fear take over. Break the problem down into small chunks that can be managed. See difficult situations as a chance to improve your problem solving skills. See them as enjoyable and challenging. Remember that things turn out best for people who make the best of the way things turn out.

6.Develop a support system. Everyone needs at least one person who acts as a sounding board. Choose some one you feel safe with, who you know you can share your hopes and fears with, without being judged. Just verbalizing feelings can be a great source of relief. Friends multiply joy and divide sorrow.

7.Learn to accept the things you can not change. The serenity prayer says it all: "God grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." Patience plays a large role in learning to accept what you can not change. Practice it often and it will become easier with time. Patience is sometimes putting up with people you would like to pu down. Don't confuse acceptance with becoming helpless. Keeping busy and understanding that life is cyclical and ups and downs are all a part of the process will help.

8.Develop a personalized anti-stress regimen. This regimen should emphasize a healthy diet, exercise, and relaxation. It should be convenient, time effective, inexpensive and most important of all, enjoyable. Experimentation can provide you with one that is just right for you!

9.Don't take it personally. Fate doesn't single you out. When you are the target of someone else's bad day, just remember that if you weren't there, someone else would be the target instead. By not taking other's negative behavior personally, you can break the stress cycle. You shouldn't accept unpleasantness passively, but assert your right to be treated with respect, or temporarily remove yourself from the situation.

10.Believe in yourself. You are your own best friend. Remember that courage is believing in yourself when no one else does. Know that you have all the resources within you to make the changes you need to make and to meet all the challenges that life presents you with. This doesn't mean you have to do it alone. True strength is in knowing when to ask for help. Self confidence is trusting in yourself to meet life's challenges with a smile

TIME MANAGEMENT TIPS

Use a To Do List — It’s not only a good reminder, but also a time management tool to help you see what you accomplish and how long it takes

Get set in your ways — Good time management is synonymous with good organization. Put your daily routines into detail. While you don’t need to schedule every move you make, listing routine tasks helps you to remember each step you need to take to meet your goal, whether it’s getting to work or school on time or doing Saturday morning chores.

Break it up — Divide large tasks into small ones to get a better sense of accomplishment as you complete each step. In addition, when you’re interrupted in the middle of a task, it’s much easier to get back on track and regain your focus.

Be realistic — Don’t under or over estimate time. Over estimating time makes it difficult to fit all your tasks into your daily schedule, while under estimating “cuts your day short” and makes it impossible to complete your schedule. However, do be generous with your time allotments. It’s much easier to fit a small task into “extra” time than it is to try to make up for “lost” time.

Pick up a good habit — Try to keep something in hand going both to and from a destination. If you need to run copies, pick up some office supplies while you wait for the copy machine to finish.

Big messes start with little piles — Completely finish your circles. Put things away as you finish using them. Aside from keeping you out of clutter and giving you a big clean up at the end of a project, you’ll know where things are the next time you need to use them.

Start tomorrow tonight! — Get in the habit of preparing for the next day at the end of your day. Write out a “to do” list for tomorrow’s tasks. Leave keys, wallet (or purse), and your To Do List all in the same place. For optimum time management, you can even lay out tomorrow’s clothing before you go to bed.

Don’t forget — Write yourself a note (“Don’t forget your lunch”) or put reminders at the top of your to do list.

Round to-its — The easiest way to get “a round to-it” is to schedule a task. If the lawn needs mowing, put it on your to do list.

First things first – Prioritize your tasks and then schedule each one at the appropriate time. For instance, you may have to wait until after work to mow the lawn. Although it may be your “top priority” for the day, it needn’t be at the top of your list!

Learn to say no! — Frequently, we consider that saying “no” is discourteous, but you can be frank without being rude. “I can’t now, but I could (insert when) “or “I’m sorry, but I just can’t manage that today” is just good time management.

The pause that refreshes – Do make breaks a scheduled part of your day. A small break at the end of a large task or series of small tasks refreshes you and helps you to wind down and focus on “what’s next?”

Be flexible — Effective time management will take some time to get used to. No matter what you did or didn’t get done today, there is always tomorrow
