Dear all,

I worked for a private bank for 1 month, the profile being Current/saving account sourcing. I was ready for this kind of sales profile, but when I actually joined it turned out to be a door-to-door sales job, which I was not interested at all.

I talked to my seniors about this and I was told that only if you achieve your targets through-out one year, you will be considered for promotion and only after minimum two years I will be considered for a role change.

Mean while I got a better offer from another company and I was asked to join immediately. Thus I could not serve an official 15 days notice to the bank and to resign with immediate effect. I agreed to pay the bank a 15 day salary in lieu of the notice period, I discussed the same with my boss and HR manager, but both refused to agree citing HR policies.

The bank did not accept my resignation letter and is threatening me that I'l be terminated and my name will be updated in a database in some database which is shared by all banks. They claim that once this updation happens then I'l never be able to work in banking sector again. How true is this?

Please help as to what the bank can do, what can be its consequences and what should I do in this situation.

You need to see the terms of your appointment, as might have been listed in your offer or appointment letter. In the meanwhile, instead of verbal discussion, just give in writing to the HR that you may be informed what amount you will have to pay in lieu of notice period, which you are ready to pay. Thereafter wait and watch for the response.
I don't think there is any such database of employees leaving a bank that is shared by the banking industry. Yhat may be mere threatening tactics only.

It seems from thedetails of your post that as per teh terms of appoitment you can resign by giving 15 days notice or pay wages in lieu there of.Once you exercised the option to terminate the service, they have to accept the resignation since they have conceded that right to you under teh contract of servcie. They cannot terminate the services at their whim as it is not permissible. You can negotiate the matter amicably as Mr.Dhingra suggested for a smooth exit.

Dear all,
Thank you loads for the reply.
The offer letter says that I have to give a 15 days notice but nothing about the salary in lieu of notice is mentioned. I myself offered this option to them since I required to be relived at the earliest.
To what extent can bank spoil my career from here on-wards?
