Hi all,

I work for a software company. Could anyone please inform me about the process of reference checks after we hire someone? What are the procedures that need to be followed? I have no idea about it. Can anyone help? I am waiting for your feedback.

Hi Jayashri,

You may want to restructure your reference check process. It is always best to conduct such checks prior to the person joining your organization. You have a choice of conducting checks by yourself (or by the company hiring the candidate) or by outsourcing it to companies that specialize in such checks. It is advisable to have at least the senior joiners of your organization go through a check by an external unbiased vendor. They also offer a variety of checks you can utilize.

For the checks conducted by yourself or anyone from your HR team, you can verify the following aspects:
- Performance on the job
- Joining and leaving dates
- Designation
- Role, salary
- Reason for leaving (whether they were terminated)
- Any legal inquiries pending, etc.

Hope this helps,
Emereen
