Hi,

I need to help my participants better comprehend UK accents. Could you assist me with some listening CDs for the UK accent? It would be great if you could also let me know where I can pick them up from!

Thanks a ton!

RP (Received Pronunciation) is the accent considered the standard British accent. This is the accent of the upper class, the British Royal family, British Broadcasting (BBC), and radio. For any ESL person, this is the accent to be taught. Apart from this, there are many other regional accents throughout the UK (Welsh, Scottish, English).

A recently conducted survey suggests that only 2% of people in the UK speak with an RP accent (Example of a notable speaker: David Cameron, the UK Prime Minister). I would suggest going with RP and at the same time, learning about the differences in Estuary and Cockney accents. I hope it will help you.
