Dear Sir/Madam,

We have recently established a solar power plant factory in Tamil Nadu. It is a 100 MW unit dedicated to power generation. The registration fees are dependent on the HP. For power generation, it is above 10,000 HP, while for consumption, it is only around 500 HP (involving motors, lights, and a compressor).

My query pertains to the factory act registration fees for the mentioned unit. Should we pay based on the 10,000 HP capacity or the 500 HP consumption level?

Thank you.

In Tamil Nadu, the registration fees under the Factories Act are calculated based on the horsepower (HP) of the machinery used in the factory. Since your solar power plant factory is a power generation unit with a 100 MW capacity, the registration fees will depend on the total HP of the equipment installed.

To determine the registration fees accurately, you need to consider the total HP on both the generation side (above 10,000 HP) and the consumption side (below 500 HP). In this scenario, the registration fees will be based on the total HP of all machinery in the factory.

Here's a step-by-step guide to calculating the registration fees:
- Calculate the total HP of all machinery on the generation side (above 10,000 HP) and the consumption side (below 500 HP).
- Add up the HP values from both sides to get the total HP of the factory.
- Pay the registration fees based on the total HP calculated.

It's essential to comply with the Factories Act regulations in Tamil Nadu to ensure the proper registration and operation of your solar power plant factory. For specific fee structures and detailed calculations, it is advisable to refer to the official guidelines provided by the Tamil Nadu government or consult with a legal expert well-versed in labor laws and factory regulations.

Ensure timely payment of registration fees to avoid any penalties or non-compliance issues in operating your factory under the Factories Act in Tamil Nadu.
