As per Factories Act 1948, the limit of overtime is set as 50 hours in a quarter which can be relaxed to 75 hours by the Chief inspector of factories. There is a proposal to increase the limit to 75 & 100 hours respectively which is yet to be notified.

The Factories Act 1948 has set the limit of overtime 12 hours in a week and 50 hours in a quarter. This can be extended up to 75 hours,provided the proposal of the factory to get it approved from by the Chief Inspector of Factories for a reasonable factor for a sanctioned period to meet the exigency nature of work.
