Hi,

I need some clarifications regarding the leave policy for an IT company:

1) Can sick leave be carried forward to the next fiscal year?
2) Is it possible to credit the paid leave/privileged leave for the entire year at the beginning of the year? Are there any legal or financial implications associated with this?

Thanks.

Sick leave can be carried forward, but it is not a legal compulsion. Paid leave or Privilege Leave - you first need to earn the leave, and then only you can take it. In the same way, paid leaves cannot be encashed in advance.

Hi,

You will have to make your own standards for your organization. As far as the questions you have raised:

I) Yes, sick leave can be carried forward to the next year. However, there is a maximum limit beyond which it cannot be carried forward.

II) Generally, paid/privilege leave accrues on an individual basis depending on the number of months. But, with special sanction or recommendation from higher authorities, you can avail of this facility right at the beginning of the year.

Thanks for the clarification, guys.

Can you also tell me the maximum limit up to which the sick leave can be carried forward? I am trying to put a new leave policy in place for my company. Need some inputs for the same.

Thanks!

Depends on your company's policy...

Normally, yes, it gets accumulated if not used, as per service rules. Can be used once earned. If your company gives leave every month, then accordingly. However, if your company gives, say, 15 days in January and 15 days in July, then once it is credited and noted in your leave record, it can be utilized.
