Introduction: This training programme is based on the famous book written by Patrick Lencioni. "The Five Dysfunctions of a Team" outlines the root causes of politics and dysfunction in the teams where you work and the keys to overcoming them. Contrary to conventional wisdom, the causes of dysfunction are both identifiable and curable. However, they don't die easily. Making a team functional and cohesive requires levels of courage and discipline that many groups cannot seem to muster.

How is this Programme Different?: Most training programmes on teamwork revolve around games. Sometimes the training is conducted outbound, which increases the cost further. Should the training programme be costly? The dysfunctions are nothing but diseases of the organization. Do organizations succeed in eradicating the diseases they are afflicted with? This training programme aims to understand these diseases, which can be done without an overdose of games.

The Five Dysfunctions: According to the book by Patrick Lencioni, the five dysfunctions are:

- Absence of trust—unwillingness to be vulnerable within the group
- Fear of conflict—seeking artificial harmony over constructive passionate debate
- Lack of commitment—feigning buy-in for group decisions creates ambiguity throughout the organization
- Avoidance of accountability—ducking the responsibility to call peers on counterproductive behavior, which sets low standards
- Inattention to results—focusing on personal success, status, and ego before team success

Objectives of the Training Programme: Objectives give us a sense of direction, a definition of what we plan to accomplish, and a sense of fulfillment when they are achieved. Upon completion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

- Understand what synergy is and how collective outcomes surpass individual outcomes
- Understand various dysfunctions of a team and develop skills for resolving disruptive conflict among team members
- Understand the difference between positive and negative conflict and how to eradicate negative conflict and substitute positive conflict in its place
- Learn how to foster collaboration in the workplace

Unique Programme Takeaway: On the second day, participants will be given a simulation based on a board game, modified to meet corporate training requirements. Faculty, along with fellow trainers, has developed this simulation indigenously. In the simulation, various qualities of the participants like orientation to teamwork, creative mindset, collaborative attitude, leadership, etc., are brought out. In the debriefing, topics like organizational communication, leadership, quality of decision-making, and the importance of the choice of direction will be discussed. After the simulation, participants will be encouraged to come up with ideas for collaboration among themselves.

Training Notes and Material: A handbook on the respective training module will be provided during the training. A soft copy of the training handbook will be sent to you 3-4 days before the training. Please prepare a sufficient number of copies for distribution during the training.

Training Methodology:

- All adult learning tools will be used in the training, including games, exercises, and role plays.
- A combination of videos, slides, group discussions, brainstorming, and case study examples will be used within each module.
- Each module is designed to encourage active participation from each group member.

ROI on Training: The returns on the training are measurable. Participants will be given an exercise on how to measure the ROI of this training.
