Charlie's - The shift allowance is based on duties that begin after a specified time and is calculated on a per-day basis. For example, someone working a 7 PM to 4 AM shift receives an approximate allowance of 'X' per day for this shift timing. This usually applies when there are rotational shifts. For someone working a constant shift at the same timing, the shift allowance is included as part of the salary.
