Hello everyone, I am in trouble. I resigned from HCL and am serving the 3-month notice period now. I will complete the notice period on 15 Apr. However, my manager wants to assign me a task that I won't be able to finish before 15 Apr. He says I have to complete it before 15 Apr; otherwise, he will extend the notice period by one more month. He is not ready to discuss it and says to talk to him after the result.
I find this unprofessional and unethical. As far as I know, it is not possible for him to do this as I am serving the entire 3-month notice period. Please advise on how I should handle this issue.

Notice period cannot be extended as and when the manager likes. Have you already received the acknowledgment/acceptance of your resignation letter and also the date of relieving? In that case, it cannot be modified. You can approach the HR Department if your manager had given the assignment through email. If it is verbal, you can always challenge him in front of the HR manager. He is trying to spite you. Don't take any rash decisions. Keep cool, calm, and go ahead with the assignment. Whether or not you complete it is immaterial. Since knowingly he has given the task to you, it is his responsibility, and he should have used his common sense to give such an assignment to you or not.
