Ideally, there should not be any stigma attached to the fact that someone has taken a break from work to pursue other interests in life unless it is something like a jail term. The best approach is to give the reason for doing so and convince the prospective employer.

I personally know of a case where a senior employee had taken a break of a few years in the pursuit of spiritual knowledge and peace. Later on, his Guruji asked him to return to his earlier life as the time for him to renounce the world had not come. Fortunately, in his case, the matter was known to his ex-employers, and they gladly welcomed him back.

In any case, there should not be any reason to discredit the skills and experience of such individuals, although the compensation and job position may be affected.

In your situation, you have not disclosed to us the reason for this long absence. If it's due to entering married life, having children, and taking care of the family until you can work again, you can share this reason and convince your prospective employer about your priorities during different phases of your life and how it was essential for you to focus on your family responsibilities. It is a valid reason, even though many may not consider it favorably.

Warm regards.
