Hi respected seniors,
Please guide me on the following issue: If we recruit an employee on 16th January who is expected to complete his three months' probation on 15th April, upon a pre-agreed condition that we shall give him a raise in salary by Rs. 2,000 upon confirmation.
Q1: Should we start his confirmed employment from 16th April or from 1st May?
Q2: Should we give him a raise in salary from 16th April or from 1st May?
Q3: If from 16th April, should the raise be Rs. 2,000 or Rs. 1,000 for that month?
Please note that we give a different employee code after confirmation and treat a permanent employee (confirmed) in continuous service. The employee in this case is a staff member (who negotiated his salary upon joining) and is not a worker as per law/rules.
Regards,

Hello Tariq,
For Points (1) & (2), you surely have to adhere as per the Offer/Appointment letter - that the cut-off date will be 3 months, which is 16th April. You should have thought of this aspect BEFORE taking him - in which case you could have mentioned that 'it will be effective from the next monthly salary cycle'.
Coming to Point (3), usually it's done on a Pro-Rata basis - so it will be 1,000/- and NOT 2,000/- for the month of April. It will be 2,000/- from May onwards.
Hope this helps.
