I have resigned from my job without serving the notice period. Due to my situation, they considered me a special case and agreed to my resignation. As per my request, they agreed to provide me with an experience letter. However, they are not providing a relieving letter.

Importance of a Relieving Letter

My question is, is a relieving letter important? Where will we use this?

An experience letter specifies the experience you had in a particular field. A relieving letter describes that you are relieved from the organization and are no longer an employee of the organization, allowing you to join elsewhere. Some organizations may require a relieving letter in addition to an experience letter before you can join.

Thank you.

I second Mr. Jeevarathnamji. Relieving letters are like clearance certificates given upon one's successful completion of tenure/employment with a particular company. The purpose of this letter is to ensure the official process of leaving is completed with a full and final settlement made, along with no dues on either party. This wraps things up in a way that will not cause further delays or impediments. Apart from the experience letter, this letter serves as proof that you are no longer employed with that organization, making it hassle-free for a new employer to recruit you.

Hope the above answer has satisfied your query.

Thanks for the reply.

Relieving Letter Details

The relieving letter goes like this: "This has reference to your resignation letter dated [date]. This is to inform you that your resignation has been accepted, and you are relieved from the services of (Company Name) at the close of working hours on [date]."

If you check, it talks only about the resignation letter's given date and not about the notice period. This means that any employee serving resignation is duty-bound to complete the notice period. However, the due course of his notice period decides the nature of his resignation letter.

Hope the above is what you were looking for.
