Recently, we had an unfortunate incident of a contract employee getting severely injured in one of our plants (outside Maharashtra). He was shifted to Mumbai for better treatment; however, he died of his injuries. The Factory Inspector has come for the inspection and inquiry. He is asking for the Post Mortem report. Although the Post Mortem was conducted in Mumbai, the report was sent by the Mumbai police to the police station at the plant location and is not available with us. Are we responsible for collecting it from the local police, or can the Factory Inspector obtain it directly from them? Additionally, what documents are required to be produced for this inquiry?

Dear Rahul,

You have to collect the copy of the PMR from the Mumbai Police Station. If you take care of them, surely, they will give you a copy of the PMR. In this matter, please, for heaven's sake, do not see who is responsible. Because you need to submit those for insurance claim purposes and a copy to the Factory Inspector (for closing the issue). You can even assist the family of the deceased by providing a copy of the FIR, PMR, Inquest Report/PanchNama, and the compensation paid acknowledgement copy.
