Hi there!

I am facing a difficulty and want to justify my stand on the following point: "Lunch and refreshments are an integral part of a training program." Please help me and share the qualitative and quantitative reasons.

Dear Hardik,

It is nowhere written that lunch and refreshment are prerequisites for any training program. But yes, just for the sake of change and active participation of the participants, it can be provided.

My dear friends, when organizations are hit by a recession, the majority of organizations prefer to squeeze the training budget.

The objective behind providing lunch and refreshments during training is to keep the participants focused on their training. Trainings will have definite schedules. If the lunch and refreshments are provided at the premises of training, it will be easy for the participants to regroup after the break. If they are left to fend for themselves for lunch and refreshments, they go out of the premises to have it. All of them may not regroup at the same time, and this may make faculty wait for them unnecessarily. Sometimes, it is difficult to find a decent hotel near the place of training. If they go far, they may get tired after lunch, and that provides a great opportunity to doze off during training. There may be many other benefits of making lunch and refreshments a part of training.

Gentlemen,

To create a new ambiance, some corporations set up a conference hall in mid to large-sized hotels to conduct their training programs, among other activities. The reasons for this approach include:

1) Introducing a new ambiance.
2) Cost savings, such as utilizing special central air conditioning even during holiday training.
3) Utilizing the money spent on guaranteed food quantities for XXXX participants, while the hall becomes available for free for the day or at a reduced rental cost.
4) Gathering employees from various branches, business units, or cost centers.
5) Saving time and maintaining discipline.
6) Reducing transportation costs, among other benefits.

Lunch and snacks are not mandatory.

Please reconsider your thoughts on this matter.

Thank you.

Hi Hardik!

To me, it is a yes and no depending on the training type, venue, duration, company policy, economic condition of your company, etc. Overall, it will not necessarily follow that every time there is training, meals, and refreshments are a must.
