I am working with a world's leading HR solution-providing organization; however, my role is completely different from HR. I am working in operations, which is a BPO's back-end kind of work. I have over 3 years of work experience in the same field. I have applied for many internal job postings within the organization; however, I have always received similar feedback, i.e., I don't have any previous experience in HR.

I have not started my postgraduate studies so far because I want to pursue them alongside my current role. Can I switch my career to HR? Is there any hope?

Many people face this quandary at some point in their career. This requires a bit of research, timing, and probably luck with a suitable opportunity.

Don't be too particular about what you want to do in HR. Check the possible routes to get into HR, such as training, employee engagement, participating in operational interviewing, coaching, mentoring, and even if you can use an opportunity to stretch yourself to cover for an employee in a related function just to get the exposure. While IJP is an option, what may work better is a talk with your seniors and letting them know that you are keen and that you want to give it a shot. They can probably start asking you to double up on a function or at least think of you when an opportunity presents itself.

Also, start your higher education as it adds value to your resume and can be an opportunity to present yourself differently. Also, people will take you more seriously when they know you are preparing yourself for a career in HR.

If nothing works in your existing organization, keep an eye open for other employers who may give you a try with probably a graduation up your sleeve.

Best wishes!
