Hi,

I would require advice and suggestions regarding a career change. I am currently working as a Key Account Manager handling a client site of 100 people, and my company has suggested moving me to the role of HR Manager. I am confused as I have always been in an operations-related role. I moved from being a Unit Manager to a Key Account Manager.

Please advise if this move will be a good one. 😕

Regards,

Reena

Hi Reena,

Successful career change depends on a lot of things such as financial aspects, your liking for the new job profile, your capabilities to handle new challenges, the satisfaction you will get from the new job, etc. Therefore, you need to consider all these aspects before deciding to accept a new work assignment.

Regarding the HR field, you can have a very successful career in HR. As an operations person, you work on behalf of employees, but as an HR professional, you need to be the link between management and employees. This requires a shift in how you perceive situations, your attitude towards them, your problem-solving skills aiming for win-win situations, and so on.

If you decide to take on the new role, I suggest that you consider undergoing some formal training in HR. This will help you grow in a field that is both interesting and challenging.

Cheers,
Harshad
