Issue with Duplicate PF Numbers for Contractual Employees
We hired some contractual employees in 2010-2011 and assigned them PF numbers, and their PF returns were filed during that period. Due to clerical errors, around 15 employees received the same PF number that was originally assigned to the aforementioned contractual employees. These employees started joining the organization from June 2011 onwards. The mistake was discovered while preparing our annual PF return.
On a monthly basis, we submit Form 5 to the PF authorities. Can we submit a revised Form 5 to the PF authorities with new PF numbers? Will the PF authorities allow us to assign new PF numbers to the employees who joined in June 2011? Is there a solution to this problem?

Yes, you have a solution for this problem.
Steps to Resolve PF Number Issue
1. Firstly, you should write an explanation letter to the Regional EPF office, copying the concerned EPF Enforcement Officer.
2. Provide the new number to the employees.
3. Submit the transfer application for those employees whose number has changed.
It will take some time, but you should follow closely; otherwise, it will become more complicated. Even though you consult with your E.O., he can help you overcome the problem.
