Hi all seniors, I would like to seek your advice. In my case, the vacancy was advertised before the revision of pay scales for the post of Assistant Manager, i.e., in the unrevised pay scale of Rs. 10750-16750 IDA. However, by the time the interview/selection took place, the pay scales were revised as follows:

Designation & Scale (UNREVISED) Designation & Scale (REVISED)

(a) Asst. Mgr (10750-16750) TO Dy Manager (20600-46500)
(b) Mgt. Trainee (8600-14600) TO Asst. Mgr. (16400-40500)

Now, at the time of appointment, I was offered the position of Assistant Manager (16400-40500), i.e., the revised pay scale of Management Trainee (Rs. 8600-14600) and not the revised scale of Assistant Manager.

Please guide me on the further course of action.

Thanks & regards,

From India, Karnal

I believe you are referring to public sector employment where such pay scales still exist. The scale indicates the basic pay being offered. Please be clear that in the Management Trainee to Assistant Manager pay-scale revision, it has not been mentioned at which grade level you would be offered. There could be Assistant Managers at a basic of 16,400 and others at 40,500 per month. The public sector in question has upgraded the salaries of Management Trainees, previously at entry level, to match those of Assistant Managers.

Thus, the maximum of one scale may be the minimum of another. For instance, the maximum for a supervisor grade could be INR 20,000, which might act as the minimum for the next level of officer or foreman. Therefore, complete the Management Trainee program and see at which level you are confirmed after your probation.
