Do read "Beyond the Last Blue Mountain" featuring JRD Tata. I am not sure whether it was JRD or his mentor who visualized in the last century that it would be difficult for future business owners to keep a tab on the pulse of their employees. An employee may be going through one of the toughest phases of his life, yet the same doesn't hold much priority with the company's head.

This short handbook later on laid the foundation for HR as we know it today. Also, read May's edition of Human Capital; it features Classic Labels, which won the award for being the second best place to work. A 14% bonus has been given since 1950, with an average salary of a worker being 20,000 per month. Two-wheelers were given to all in 2006. The company didn't have a QC and HR manager for all these decades and hired an HR manager only last year.

Dear Ana,

This is a simple technique to interact with people. It does not require any books.

1. Get to know each employee in your office, from the office boy to the top boss. Interact with at least 5-8 people a day outside your department.
2. Understand their difficulties and try to solve them at the best level possible, but within the company's policy.
3. Implement good policies in your company. Ensure people understand them by conducting presentations, meetings, and monitoring their implementation.
4. Celebrate the birthdays of officers, staff, and senior managers with the entire team. Arrange picnics or family get-togethers once a year.
5. Conduct training programs for them.
6. Keep an eye on people who speak against the company and disrupt the environment. Enforce strict measures with them.

Effective people interaction and communication are powerful methods to ensure everyone's happiness in the world.

Regards,
Bhushan
