Hi Everyone,

I am working as an HR Executive in a Non-IT company in Chennai and I have overall 5.5 years of experience. In the initial 3 years, I was in recruitment (IT), and then I gained 2.5 years of experience as a Generalist. I have a BBA degree, and I am the only HR personnel in my company, so I have to handle all HR activities. My current CTC is 3.5 L.

Please let me know if this is a decent salary. I would appreciate hearing your views.

Prema,

Your question is very subjective. We will not be able to come to a consensus on whether 3.5L is a decent salary for you until we know exactly what your credentials, skill sets, competency level, and their relativity to the job involved are. We do not know what level/grade you are working at, what your performance style is, and your deliverables (in measurable terms) to decide upon your worth and determine whether your CTC is matching the same.

I would say you are the best judge for this question. Think for yourself, do some brainstorming, and arrive at a conclusion. If you feel undervalued, speak to your current employer, try to convince them. If there are no takers for your request, move on, find a better opportunity.

CTC varies from company to company and depends on the type of business. Every company has its own benchmark for determining CTC for different positions.

Secondly, considering your qualifications, it seems that 3.5L is reasonable in Chennai.

Prema,

In addition to what I said, CTC is based on the following factors:

1. Dislocation of employees due to regular transfers.
2. Frequent travels.
3. Hardship.
4. Company's financial standings.
5. Individual performance.
6. Locations.
7. Working hours.

In my view, you are positioned at your native place and do not involve much business travel, dislocation, etc. You have to compare your CTC with similar types only.

I agree with you! The reason for this doubt arising was that many of my friends are earning better with less experience. I was not jealous but wanted to know the exact salary slab for HR in non-IT. My friends are working in IT, maybe that's the reason!

There is no specific salary slab for HR in non-IT and IT sectors. It purely depends on factors mentioned in the above posts. The pay scale is generally more stable and higher for non-IT HR professionals in the long run, as there is no fear of industry saturation as seen in the IT/ITES sectors.

Thank you.
