This is Sachin Jaiswal, a new member of the HR forum. In our organization, we are starting new policies and programs. Currently, we have initiated a new program - a company newsletter. We are working on the 3rd edition, and in this edition, we plan to include the Employee of the Month as a recurring feature.
I would appreciate any guidance on the following:
1) Parameters for selecting the Employee of the Month.
2) Suitable rewards to offer the winner.
3) Suggestions for a format, certificate, etc.

I must appreciate this very nice initiative. Please find below my opinion:
1) The parameter for the Star of the Month - You can identify that through performance every month. The star will surely shine out.
2) What kind of reward should we offer for the winner? - You may give a certificate and a memento (depending on the cost that you may like to incur every month), which may be a trophy, a pen with the logo of your organization, a mug, etc.

Dear Sachin,
You can put the employee's picture on your information board, make a star, and fix that picture with her name, designation, and department. After 3 months, all the star employees can be taken for recreation, such as a movie or Fun World, depending on your cost.
You can announce their names at birthday parties in your company where you can give them a gift. Additionally, you can send out emails with nice quotes through Outlook Express to everyone in your company.
