Dear all,

Have a nice day! I want to do an M.B.A. Is there any difference between distance and regular M.B.A.? If I do it from a private institute, will I be eligible for a faculty post in colleges? Please help me in deciding. Thanks in advance.

Hi Indu,

Yes, it makes a lot of difference if you do an MBA regularly rather than through a distance course because the regular course gives you a lot of practical exposure that cannot be acquired while doing a distance learning MBA. A distance MBA can be beneficial only when you have at least 3 years of work experience. It will only then help you to relate work-related concepts with what you will learn in literature.

As far as a job in college is concerned, most colleges, when selecting candidates, do look into your degree and the reputation of the institution. Even if you cannot manage to do it from a good business school, please keep in mind that the institution from which you want to obtain a degree should be AICTE approved.

Hope it helps you.

Hi Indu,

It would be a good idea to pursue a regular MBA if you want to have a clear understanding of HR fundamentals and access good job opportunities through campus. A distance MBA may not provide the exposure to B-school environments necessary to develop your knowledge, competencies, and personality. Nowadays, organizations tend to prefer candidates with regular MBAs over part-timers or distance MBA graduates when it comes to job qualifications.

My suggestion is to complete your MBA from a reputable B-school or university, and you are sure to achieve your goals.

Hi Hitesh,

Firstly, thank you for your advice. I have one more question. Actually, I have completed M.Com through distance learning, APGDCA, M.Sc in Computer Science, and have 3 years of experience in administration within the education sector. After working for over 3 years, I am feeling fed up and considering further studies. Since I have not taken exams like CAT or MAT, can I still manage to secure admission in a reputable institute?

Could you provide information about the International Institute of Information Technology in Pune for pursuing an MBA? I am unsure if it is AICTE approved.

I look forward to your reply. Thank you very much.

Hi Indu,

If you are working, consider going for distance learning as it is beneficial for you. If you have practical knowledge, why are you opting for regular courses? Obviously for knowledge. If you are working, you are dealing with real practical knowledge. I know you are not in HR, but it does not matter; you have seen offices and their workings. Rest your decision. I agree with Hitesh that a regular institute is good, but for you, continue working and pursue distance learning alongside so that your hope combats your boredom and frustration.

Hi Indu,

Look, you already have completed two postgraduate degrees. What fun would it be to pursue another postgrad degree? I have a better option for you. If you are considering further education, I suggest going for a Ph.D. in your chosen subject. It will serve three purposes for you. Firstly, it will satisfy your thirst for knowledge. Secondly, it will enhance your chances of securing a teaching position in a reputable college. Thirdly, a Ph.D. involves a certain number of supervised hours with your guide and the preparation of a thesis. However, bear in mind that obtaining a Ph.D. is not an easy task; it requires a significant amount of effort to qualify. I believe this could be a great solution for you. If you are truly interested in pursuing business management, you can opt for a one-year diploma and then proceed to a Ph.D. in your area of interest.

Regarding IIIT Pune, please visit their website for more information.

I hope this provides you with some direction to consider.

Regards,
Hitesh
