Hi all, can anyone tell me what is the difference between IT and ITES.

I got a call for an interview for the HR Post, but I told them that I have experience in both IT and Non-IT. They mentioned that they are specifically looking for candidates with ITES experience. Can anyone help me understand the difference, and if I would be eligible to apply for this job?

Thanks and Regards,
Lakshmi

Dear Lakshmi,

IT stands for Information Technology, and ITES stands for IT Enabled Services. ITES services are those that require the assistance of IT but not hardcore IT. It includes soft skills like communication, where we use computers to input responses. These services are mainly utilized in BPOs and KPOs, where we input customer information into the database on a computer.

IT stands for Information Technology, wherein ITES stands for Information Technology Enabled Services. ITES is a part of IT. ITES also includes a segment called BPO, which stands for Business Process Outsourcing. BPO itself is a vast field. The latest developments in the ITES field include BPO, call center operations, back-office jobs, and the emerging trends of KPO (Knowledge Process Outsourcing) and LPO (Legal Process Outsourcing).

Hello Lakshmi,

According to the Information Technology Association of America, IT is: "the study, design, development, implementation, support, or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware."

ITES is a form of outsourced service that has emerged due to the involvement of IT in various fields such as banking and finance, telecommunications, insurance, etc. So, the difference is that one is an outsourced service, and the other is the general description of what ITES does.

Thanks,
Umesh Kumar

Hi,

IT - Information Technology (which includes hardware and software industry and even IT telecom).

ITES - Information Technology Enabled Services (which includes call center, BPO, KPO, RPO).

If you ask for my suggestion on which field you should enter, then prefer IT or non-IT. Don't go for ITES. Your career will be spoiled.

IT companies are those that provide consultancy to the client related to IT infrastructure or processes. For example, an IT company may develop an application to be used in a bank.

In the case of ITES or IT-enabled services, companies provide services using IT. For instance, online data entry jobs are considered ITES and are unrelated to maintaining applications related to data entry.

I am shocked to see everyone comparing ITES with BPOs and KPOs. Any insourced service that is accelerated or operated by integrating Information Technology is ITES. If there is an in-house Call Center supported with CRM and ACD, then it is also ITES. TELEMEDICINE is ITES, eCourts is ITES. These are not outsourced services. So dear CITEHREANS, ITES is any service supported by Information Technology. The Modern Security and Attendance System is also an example of ITES.
