I work for a financial institution and have a subordinate who is fresh out of college, an Management Trainee (MT), who is expected to be promoted to my level in a year (I have 5 years of post-qualification experience). Our boss expects us to work together but never assigns any work, leaving the sharing decisions to us. However, I have noticed that the MT comes across as quite arrogant and seems to believe he is not accountable to me. He goes directly to the boss for any issues without even consulting with me. Additionally, he lacks expertise in computer skills, let alone any work-related skills.
I am seeking advice on the appropriate "words/statements" I can use to convey to my boss that the MT is inexperienced and needs to take on work allocation responsibilities if he continues to act egotistically. Furthermore, if we are to collaborate effectively, there needs to be a clear line of communication that the MT must adhere to in order to prevent conflicts.

You have created this imaginary line of senior and junior; this is not fair.
You have judged your juniors as subordinates rather than colleagues.
You did not respect individuals based on talent but on seniority.
You want to be respected by your so-called juniors and have them work under you.
This approach is more conservative, and you should adopt a more liberal view.
Focus on your job and prove yourself first to build the confidence of your juniors in your abilities. This will automatically establish respect for your competencies and skills.
Do not depend on juniors for assistance; complete your assignments as your responsibility, even if you are working with a group.
Finish your assignment, present it to your boss, inform him of the participation level of your juniors in the assignment, and explain why you chose to work alone or independently rather than in a group or team due to certain fundamental principles of teamwork that do not exist.
Only then will your boss understand your situation and work towards establishing decorum for juniors if your organization believes in business decorum.
